Privacy

A short, honest summary of what we collect, what we don't, and why. Last updated April 2026.

The short version

learnenglish has no accounts, no sign-ups, and no personal data collection. We don't know which articles you read, which words you hovered, or how long you stayed. We don't need to.

What we don't collect

  • Names, emails, phone numbers, addresses
  • Login credentials (there's no login system)
  • Reading history, clicked words, time spent
  • Location data, device identifiers
  • Ad identifiers or advertising trackers

What stays in your browser

Two small preferences live entirely on your device:

  • Language — which language you want to read the news in. It appears in the URL.
  • Theme — whether you chose light or dark mode. Stored in your browser's local storage and never sent to our servers.

Both values exist only inside your browser. They never leave your device.

Server logs

Like every web service, our servers record standard request logs: the time of the request, the path, and the response status. These logs exist for operations and debugging only, are kept for a short window, and are never used to profile individuals.

Third parties

News content is sourced from News14. If you click a link that takes you off our site (an original article, Wikipedia, etc.), the privacy policy of that destination applies. We try to minimise these external calls and we have no embedded analytics, tracking pixels, or social widgets on this site.

Changes

This document will be updated when our practices change. Any meaningful change will be announced on the front page before it takes effect.
